Almost always, what one likes to read is what one would like to write. It has been no different with me—the genre of literary fiction being my area of interest. One minor difference exists; while I prefer writing on India-centric themes, there is no such restriction on my reading.
I consider it the biggest benefit of reading that lying curled up in a cosy nook with a good novel, I can learn in great depth about people, cultures and events so far removed from me in time and place, something that would not be possible via any other medium of instruction or entertainment.
I have kept a careful record of all the fiction-reading I have done, which is what I have listed in various categories under the table of contents. I was tempted to remove the first half of my novels-read list considering it the choice of a child and then an adolescent. But then I desisted, for the reason that the complete list would be a good indicator of my evolving tastes to mull over in retrospect.
