Upamanyu Chatterjee
Upamanyu Chatterjee (b. 1959) was born in Patna and studied English literature in Delhi University before joining the Indian Administrative Service.
His novels focus on the life of a young, westernized Indian bureaucrat posted in a non-descript town. His writing is characterized by a wry sense of humour and an eye for portraying the life of middle-class India.
Upamanyu Chatterjee has not yet achieved the success his debut novel promised as some of his contemporaries have, through Western publishers.
