Sujata Massey
Sujata Massey (b. 1964) was born in Sussex, England to an Indian father and German mother. When she was five, her parents emigrated to USA and she grew up in Pennsylvania, California and Minnesota.
She went to college in Baltimore, graduating from the Johns Hopkins University in 1986 and started her career as a newspaper journalist at the Baltimore Evening Sun.
Sujata Massey and her Navy officer husband moved to Japan in 1991. Her two-year stint in Japan led her to write the series of Rei Shimura mystery novels whose protagonist sleuth has a confusion about her ethnic identity, like the author herself.
