Shashi Tharoor
Shashi Tharoor (b. 1956) was born in London and had his education in Bombay, Calcutta and Delhi. He completed his Ph. D. in the US at the age of 22.
His first novel The Great Indian Novel is a political satire, set within the framework of the Mahabharata, while his latest, Riot, is about the hapless involvement of an American visitor in the communal cauldron of India.
Both his fictional and non-fictional output reflect his concerns and experiences gained during his long career as an administrator and UN official. He has been associated with the United Nations since 1978, working in senior positions in the office of the Secretary-General.
Shashi Tharoor won the Commonwealth Writers' Prize in 1991.
