Salman Rushdie

Salman Rushdie (b. 1947) was born in Bombay on the eve of the independence of India. He continued his education in Cambridge from the age of fourteen.Salman Rushdie

Salman Rushdie’s books are known for their fantastic prose, and are steeped in magic realism. Some of them have real, political or historical incidents as their basis, but more often than not, they get lost in the flightiness of his language.

He was condemned to death by a fatwa issued by the Ayatollah Khomeini, and has emerged in public view only after a decade of hiding. Since then, he has moved from London to New York.

Salman Rushdie won the Booker in 1981 and the Whitbread Award in 1988.
