Lakshmi Persaud
Lakshmi Persaud (1939-), born in Trinidad, is of Indian origin. She completed her higher education in UK.
She taught in the West Indies before moving to UK and turned to fiction writing in the eighties. Her first two novels deal with the latent forces within Hinduism as found in the society she grew up in, while her later works grow broader in scope and theme and encompass political and ethnic conflicts in the Caribbean.
After V. S. Naipaul, probably Lakshmi Persaud is one Indian writer of note to emerge from the West Indies.
