Kavita Daswani

Kavita Daswani (b. 1968) was born in Hong Kong to Bombay-based parents. She lived in Hong Kong for thirty years before moving to US after her marriage.

She worked as a fashion correspondent for CNN and CNBC Asia, and has been the fashion editor for the South China Morning Post.

Both her novels deal with the issues of marriage, in particular, the characteristic institution of arranged marriage in India with its plethora of conditions of suitability or unsuitability. The protagonist is a woman in either case, contrasting and coming to terms with the social constraints in India and the wild freedom of USA.

Kavita Daswani is now based in Los Angeles.
